Ed has been involved with the Amateur Radio Emergency Service Programs since his retirement, which are part of a Nation Wide Society devoted to public assistance in the time of need or distress.
Local units serve by providing communications with the Hospital, Fire Dept., Sheriff, Police, Civil Air Patrol, Coast Guard, Search & Rescue and other County, State and Federal Agencies during time of large scale emergencies and periodic drills and tests.
He also took on the responibility of a "Spotter" for the National Weather Service and became a Volunteer Chief Examiner responsible for FCC Amateur & Commerical Licensing. He is also an 'Offical Observer' for the ARRL/FCC, monitoring the airways to ensure proper use of designated frequencies.
